I can read about 90-95% of the kanji and words of the text, but I can’t understand what it’s trying to convey, or what the meaning is. Anyone else feel like that?
That’s happened quite a bit for me. I’m currently reading through a simpler book so that I can understand more and build some comfort, fluency, and confidence. I bought The Magic Tree House. Reading the first book now, and I understand most of it.
Oh yeah, for sure. It would be the same in some cases for Japanese speakers reading an English text. I can only think that it would be some type of figurative language, like sentences that have a whole other meaning to what it says. Or the sentence is just way too long for me to simultaneously piece together. Do you have an example of your situation?

This is why learning vocabulary/kanji only is a bad idea. Learning languages requires much more than just learning words.
