13 Days Japan Itinerary (8 days Tokyo, 5 days Kyoto), for a 3rd trip

Hello, I will be travelling to Japan with my parents and siblings from 15 Dec – 27 Dec. Would like some advice for the itinerary that I have planned. Any help would be appreciated!

**Additional Info**

* This is our third trip to Japan, we have visited the common tourist spots all over Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka on our previous trips.
* Transportation
* will mostly use metro (without JR pass)
* Will be renting a car for a day trip to Nikko & Fuji
* starting 22 Dec – 27 Dec will have JR Pass
* Restaurants
* mostly we haven’t planned for a particular restaurant to go for, open for recommended restaurants suggestion

**Schedule**

**15 Dec (Tokyo)**

* Arrive in Narita, 15.40 PM
* Train to apartment in Edogawa
* Dinner near apartment (open for recommendation)
* Rest

**16 Dec (Tokyo)**

* Train to Shibuya, stroll around Shibuya
* Lunch in Shibuya
* Harajuku (Shinjuku)
* Dinner at Gyukatsu Motomura

**17 Dec (Tokyo)**

* brunch at Tsukiji Fish market
* TeamLab Planets
* Lunch near Tokyo Imperial Palace
* Tokyo Imperial Palace (open for other suggestion since I heard it’s not that worth it?)
* Asakusa Temple
* Dinner near Asakusa

**18 Dec (Tokyo)**

* Open for suggestion for places in Tokyo (Or a day trip outside Tokyo that is accessible just by using metro)

**19 Dec (Tokyo)**

* Open for suggestion for places in Tokyo (Or a day trip outside Tokyo that is accessible just by using metro)

**20 Dec (Tokyo)**

* Rent a car, to Lake Kawaguchi
* Fuji
* Fujiten Ski Resort

**21 Dec (Tokyo)**

* Rent a car, day trip to Nikko,
* open for suggestion for places in Nikko

​

**22 Dec (Kyoto, will be having JR Pass starting today)**

* Moveout to Kyoto, will be arriving in Kyoto at around 17.00
* Dinner near apartment

**23 Dec (Osaka)**

* Take shinkansen to Osaka for a day trip
* Universal Studios (prefer to go on this day, to avoid weekends crowdedness, or do you think there will not be much difference since it’s already a holiday season anyway?)

**24 Dec (Kyoto)**

* Arashiyama
* we’ve actually went to this place and we plan for a second visit, but feel free to recommend other places to go

**25 Dec (Kyoto)**

* Take shinkansen to Kobe for a day trip
* Lunch at Steakland (open for other steakhouse recommendation)
* Train to Osaka
* Stroll around Dotonbori, Shinsaibashi

​

**26 Dec (Kyoto)**

* Open for suggestion for places in Kyoto

​

**27 Dec**

* Flight back home

  1. A comment about renting a car: Fuji area (less likely) and Nikko area (likely) might have some snow during this season, so it’s a cold idea to reserve a car with studless tires.

    Also, people only go to Kawaguchiko because they don’t have a car. If you have a car, certainly do travel around to see the other lakes and don’t confine yourself around just single lake.
