What are your ways to make a machine understand you’re asking it in Japanese, not Chinese?

Whenever I try to make a quick one-word search query, most of the times I get results in Chinese and it’s really annoying

  1. Yeah it’s funny I get all these targeted ads from google in Chinese because I search a lot of stuff in Japanese

  2. Lol I search in Chinese and keep getting Japanese answers on Bing and Google too.

  3. Any hiragana is going to help with getting Japanese instead of Chinese, so the とは already mentioned or なに

  4. The Mandarin word for meaning is 意思, in Japanese it’s 意味. That’s normally enough of a distinction for Google, but if not, you can say どういう意味 to be extra clear

  5. Hey, I finally solved this issue myself recently. If you’re using Google, you can set the languages of your search results. I selected Japanese and English, works like a charm.
