2.5 week itinerary check and suggestions

Hello,

Planning on going on a 2.5 week trip to Tokyo>Hakone>Osaka>Kyoto>Tokyo. Hotels are already booked so movement between cities is not flexible. Would greatly appreciate feedback and specific suggestions on areas to visit.

Dec 18: Flying to NRT, customs, check into hotel

Dec 19: Explore Chuo, Shibuya in the afternoon

Dec 20: Toyosu ,teamlab planets, lunch, explore Odiaba/Koto city

Dec 21: Akihabara, asakusa, pokemon center

Dec 22: Shibuya, meiji jingu, harajuku, sushi rinda(reserved), shinjuku

Dec 23: Chuo fish market, capybara cafe, revisits

Dec 24: train to Hakone, tenzan onsen

Dec 25: Hakone shrine, ropeway, owakudani, amazake tea house, onsen at Hotel Green Plaza

maybe hike on Old Tokaido Road between locations if weather is acceptable

Dec 26: train to Osaka, ??

Dec 27: explore area around hotel, shin sekai, dontonbori

Dec 28: Osaka castle, den den town, red light district

​

Dec 29: train to Kyoto, explore around hotel

Dec 30: nijo castle, nishiki market, gion, kiyomizu, pontocho

Dec 31: Kinkakuji temple, monkey park, arashiyama bamboo forest, otagi

Jan 1: Fushimi inari shrine, matsumoto, yasaka shrine

Tokyo

Jan 2: train back to Tokyo, last min shopping

Jan 3: flight home

  1. Osaka Castle is closed from 28 December to 1 January. Nijo-jo is closed from 29 December to 1 January.

    So the suggestion would be to visit either Himeji (closed only on 29 and 30 December) or Hikone (open throughout the period).

    If you really must see Tobita Shinchi (which honestly is not that very good idea) – it would make more sense to do it on the same day as Shinsekai (since the districts are essentially within walking distance).

    Since you are already visiting Kiyomizu-dera on 30 December, you’d probably want to do whole Southern Higashiyama area (including Yasaka-jinja) on that day.

    On 1 January, it could make more sense to visit either Byodo-in in Uji or Nara after Fushimi Inari.
