Hi everyone! My friend and I will be visiting Japan next year. I’m a first timer and my friend is a second timer, although it’s their first time around Kansai. This is our first itinerary draft and although we are quite happy with it, we would like to check:
1. if this is realistic
2. if this is a good way of using of JR Kansai Hiroshima Area 5-Day Pass (or if it can be optimized) (It doesn’t seem like there are options for more than 5 days?)
3. if you have any recommendations for transport passes after the pass has expired in the itinerary
4. if you have any other recommendations regarding our itinerary!
19 March – Land at KIX at 4pm, Dotonbori
20 March – Osaka: Hozenji, Kuromon, Namba Yasaka, Tsutenkaku, Shitennoji, Shinsekai
21 March – Mount Koya
22 March (JR day 1) – Osaka to Hiroshima, Miyajima (Itsukushima Shrine)
***23 March (JR day 2)*** ***– Hiroshima to Himeji, Himeji Castle, Himeji to Kobe (for a meal), Kobe to Osaka to Nara*** (is this problematic?)
24 March (JR day 3) – Nara
25 March (JR day 4) – Asuka, Nara to Kyoto
26 March (JR day 5) – Ine via Amanohashidate
27 March – Kyoto: Arashiyama, Daikakuji, Tenryuji, Togetsukyo
28 March – Kyoto: Kiyomizudera, Sannen + Ninenzaka, Maruyama Park, Yasaka Shrine, Gion
29 March – Kyoto: Fushimi Inari, ***Uji*** (is it worth visiting?), back to Osaka: ***Yamanakadani*** (are we cutting it close / is Yamanakadani in the afternoon/evening alright?)
30 March – Osaka: Universal Studios
31 March – Flight back at 2pm

Let me know if you have advice/recommendations based on this, thank you!

Do you want to see these places or just passing through?
I don’t think the JR pass will be worth it for you.
Don’t be too obsessed with getting travel passes, public transport in Japan is not too expensive anyway.
>Uji (is it worth visiting?),
>Asuka
These two are just City names so you’ll have to be more specific.
Also if you have written your itinerary in order of where you’re going, then maybe have a quick look at a map.
>Osaka: Yamanakadani (are we cutting it close / is Yamanakadani in the afternoon/evening alright?)
Once again Yamanakadani is just a place. What are you cutting close too? Afternoon or Evening,? It’s always Yamanakadani. If it’s Sakura that you want to see, then there is no way of knowing when they will bloom in that particular place.
I’m sorry if I sound harsh, but you need to be more specific in what you want.

Seriously, look at a map.
