So like most people here, I commute on the trains. The problem with the Tokyo winters is that it’s cold on the walk to the station but then the trains crank up the heater to max so you end up getting heatstroke on the trains if you keep just wearing most down jackets.
It’s kind of specific but has anyone found a jacket that’s warm enough to keep warm on the walks, but light enough that you don’t have to take them off on the trains?

I suggest 2nd street! It’s a pretty good used clothes store and will have a variety of jackets. Each person is different for cold I’ve found. I just wear a wind breaker and I’m fine. So, really just depends on what you consider cold/hot
What about a berghaus fleece?
That’s the problem with me too. Wish they don’t give heat on trains.
If I’m just commuting I prefer to be just a little cold when I’m outside and let walking keep me warm. Then there isn’t such a shock when transitioning into a warm place. For me and my city’s mild winters compared to ~5 years ago this is basically just a hoodie + ultradown.
Perhaps split the difference and go with one of those down ultralight vests like they have at Uniqlo.
I’ve seen more than a few salarymen wearing them under their suit jackets with a light/no overcoat
A few weeks ago there was a sale at Uniqlo. Bought a jacket under 1-man yen. I think it’s very warm and light at the same time.
Impossible. I just take off my jacket on the train unfortunately ðŸ˜
