I somehow totally goofed my travel time estimates for this day, and I’m trying to determine if I will have to scrap this plan. I wanted to hike Magome pass, my partner wanted to see Tsumago. Hoping someone can help me tell if it’s fixable.
January 5, we were hoping to **transit from Nagoya to Magome,** then hike north to **Tsumago**. However, my partner thinks that we won’t have time to complete the hike and also enjoy the town.
The earliest departure from Nagoya sets arrival at Magome Sta. about 11:30.
The last available return time from Nagiso Sta. back to Nagoya is 16:00.
I am estimating the hike at 3.5–4.5 hours. That means we could potentially arrive at the trail end at 16:00 at the latest… and still need to go through Tsumago and reach the train. Oof.
My solutions were:
* **Take a taxi?** Taxi from Nagoya to Nakatsugawa, then transit back to Nagoya at a wider variety of times. But I’m worried planning to take a taxi would not be easily available out there– ***can anyone tell me if getting a taxi is likely?***
* **Reversing the route?** Hiking from Tsumago *south* to Magome, puts our earliest arrival 13:00… the hike would then be more uphill, and end with arriving in Magome around 17:00. I figured everything would be closed in Magome by this time which was a bummer..
Is there some solutions to saving this plan that I’m not seeing? I think we will just have to drop the hike, but my partner says they think we can do hike north and get back to Nagoya in time.
