Is busuu good and also what are good materials for learning vocabulary as a beginner

Im just starting to learn and I’m wondering what good websites or flash card sets are going to be very good for learning useful vocabulary that is going to be used a lot and also what can build my basics of Japanese the fastest.

  1. I recommend a vocab list sorted by frequency (from most frequent to least). This’ll give u fast progress initially. I use the iknow website where they have the first couple of thousand words listed by frequency. I think there’s an anki deck called 2k/6k that is equivalent

  2. Last year I used Busuu to study Japanese by myself but I burnt myself out by studying too much a day.

So now I have a Japanese tutor that sets me a regular amount of homework each week and I don’t burn myself out. I’m using the Genki textbook and to learn vocabulary I use quizlet (people have made sets for the vocabulary) and I just use “write” mode do it 3 or 4 times until the words are instant in my head and I don’t have to think about them.

If you can manage to not burn yourself out studying by yourself with Busuu (but also try to do it regularly) I’m sure it’s good. I also switched to a tutor because I wasn’t sure what to learn in what order. You can probably do the Genki vocabulary on quizlet if there isn’t any Busuu ones as the words are pretty similar

  3. If you want to learn Vocab, I would recommend [JPDB.io](https://JPDB.io). You can create a deck based on the most frequently used words or just use the one based on JLPT.

I actually started with Busuu and found that it was a pretty good intro to Japanese as a whole, but once you get passed the 100th or so lesson, it felt like it went downhill in usefulness. Also, Busuu is meant to learn all skills at the same time, so if vocab is your goal, it definitely will not be the most efficient.
