Any advise from people who have studied abroad?

I’m thinking of doing a study abroad in fall, what are things some things I should know beforehand? Are there any good programs you’d recommend?

  1. Spend as much time as possible using Japanese outside of your class because that’s the real classroom and is where most of your learning will happen. The classroom in your school is just review and isn’t good for much besides visa sponsorship.

When I say spend as much time as possible in Japanese, what I mean to say is “spend as little time as possible in other English or other languages”

Most foreigners in Japan fail to learn Japanese for a variety of reasons, but the most common reason is simply continuing to live their life in English (or other languages like Chinese, Vietnamese, etc) while in Japan. If your goal is to learn Japanese then you’re going to need to take advantage of your new surroundings in order to make any serious progress – which most foreigners simply fail to do due to laziness or whatever. If you don’t believe me, [have a look for yourself.](https://www.reddit.com/r/japanlife/comments/zlepxk/what_keeps_you_from_learning_japanese/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
