Graduate Entrance Examination?

Hey so I’m looking at some universities in Japan to do my Master’s in IT at and some of them require an entrance examination. Would anyone have an idea of what the graduate entrance examination is like (since in my country it’s a common exam and doesn’t vary from colleges to colleges). I’m specifically looking for IGP(C) admission in TiTech

Also on that note on TiTech, one of the applications mentioned having only TOEFL but some other application wanted GRE scores too. Does any current student or a graduate from the Uni know about this? (Or should I email the school regarding this?)

  1. I’m currently an IGP(A) student at Tokyo Tech majoring in CS. I took the master’s entrance exam back in 2018, so some things may have changed, but the entrance exams for all IGP programs shouldn’t vary that much.

The entrance examination is basically an oral examination/interview for overseas students. It’s basically divided into three parts: presentation about past research experience, presentation about your research plan, and oral examination about basics of computer science (algorithms, statistics, etc.).

The exam isn’t exactly a formality, but unless you massively screw up, you’ll be OK. The more important part is getting a professor to agree as your advisor and write up a research plan.

Pretty sure they accept either TOEFL or IELTS, no need for GRE. I didn’t submit GRE scores when I applied. You can try emailing them, they respond fairly quickly.

I also refer you to a past comment I wrote about the admission process and campus life, if you’re interested.

If I may ask, does your country have a common exam for master’s-level admission? I can understand bachelor-level, since lots of countries (including Japan) has that, but even master’s?
