Every news article these days is saying that World War III will start soon and that Japan will fight against China, North Korea, and Russia. And yesterday, Japan finally announced its largest military buildup since WWII. Frankly, I wouldn’t be surprised if a war broke out within a few years and Japan may be involved, but are people in this subreddit concerned about this?

Not concerned at all. I doubt Japan would stand a chance against China. North Korea no idea, maybe.
The constitution hasn’t been changed yet. Be wary, but there are places in much more likelihood of seeing war than Japan.
If its world war 3, yes Japan will be involved by default by being an U.S ally. Japan would be a target and it will be attacked because of its close proximity to China/N.Ko.
The question should be if Japan would take an active aggressive role in the war rather than defensive. Most likely Japan would be forced to stand a military up to go actively fight outside it’s boarders. Even if the vast majority of the people would be against such an action, the International pressure would be so immense that Japan would have no choice. Japan’s allies would probably clearly state that they preoccupied with an offensive war and Japan would need to help in some way or be left to die.
You’re overthinking things OP. This is Germany circa WWII again. China would never risk going to war with Japan. They most likely have factored that any aggression would inadvertently lead to wars on multiple fronts with stronger aligned nations with no upside. China is big on Wolf Warrior talk, just because of its culture of saving face, but smart enough to know all out war will not be favorable for anyone.
What will happen to my residence permit when war breaks out?
I pray not. Especially not now , I have a sprained ankle and can’t even try to escape 💀💀💀

I haven’t seen a single article. Frankly, any article predicting something as dramatic as “World War III” is not reputable journalism and shouldn’t be trusted. Maybe you should re-think where you get your news from. It sounds like you’re wasting your energy listening to fear-mongers trying to sell you FUD over facts.
I’m not worried. From my experience, the Japanese public is not especially interested in militarism, so I don’t expect Japan to drag me into a war. Should someone in some other country start a war that would affect me in Japan, well, it would affect me in any country I want to live in.
I would like to see Japan stand on its own two feet and not depend so heavily on the US.
If you look up “Navies of the World”
(Armies, etc) Japan is well equipped to stand off an aggresor.
Their constitution (imposed by the US after WW II) prevents Japan from pre-emptive aggression. What the Japanese Gov’t just voted on was to allow Japan to “respond to aggression” by a foreign nation.
In the mean time, there are many, many US Bases in Okinawa, and more in Mainland Japan. I don’t think any foreign Nation wants to kick that “sleeping dog,” in the near future.
Let us hope and pray that is true.
