NTT Hikari Gaming router?

Hello 🙂
I have a question regards Internet connection.

I am using a Hikari Line and the Router from NTT.
But since I need a better WiFi Signal and the Problem that my wifi struggles and gets disconnected while downloading large files, I was thinking of switching the router to a gaming router like an Asus one.

The thing is, none of the gaming routers have a Hikari port to connect to my internet.

Do have I keep my rented router and have to connect my new one somehow to it? I am a newbie when it comes to it.

Do I have to connect it via LAN?

  1. Generally you can use another router but you’ll have to set it up to work with their modem. It should always be possible but NTT won’t be able to help you with third party hardware.

Any reason why you wouldn’t connect it via LAN? It’s the fastest and most stable connection you can make. (and a LOT cheaper than a “gaming” router)

  2. The hikari fiber goes into the NTT modem, and from there you can connect any Wi-Fi router to it.

But as /u/Seven_Hawks said, you should connect it via LAN for gaming.

and they won’t, unless you get something with SFP and mini ONU from NTT. usually the NTT rental router can be put in bridge mode so that you can place something else behind it but as others said just use a wired connection.

  4. Run ethernet cable from the NTT modem/router to a nice router of your choice with good wifi.

If you can though, connect your PC by ethernet cable to the second router.

  5. Buy the Asus router you like, configure it as “AP mode”, and disable the WiFi on ISP router, I am doing this to get better WiFi for myself.
