I did a quick search and couldn’t find an up to date answer on some of these things. I would greatly appreciate your help.
I just switched to Ahamo from Sakura Mobile and want to buy a new Galaxy S22. Cheapest price seems to be on Docomo’s online store. I have a few questions for anyone who has bought a phone recently from NTT.

2. I assume these phones are locked, but Ahamo cards should work since it’s NTT’s sub brand?

1. What you should have done to get the discount was switch from Sakura Mobile to DoCoMo – [instructions here](https://support.sakuramobile.jp/hc/en-us/articles/360040330852-I-want-to-request-an-MNP-For-Credit-card-Smart-Pit-payment-) – and then sign up with docomo that way.
2. ahamo and docomo are same network. i’m not sure on recent locking rules, they might even be unlocked out of the box. in either case, it will work in your configuration.
3. the english page must be ancient. [Japanese one says](https://www.docomo.ne.jp/support/unlock_simcard/): that any phone bought after 2021/8 is unlocked.

1. Phones being SIM locked hasn’t been a thing for a while, they’re all unlocked from the get-go
2. You don’t need to do anything. They are unlocked when purchased, especially when you purchase outright.
