Have any of you ever had problems with the bousouzoku around the Niigata/Nagaoka area?

Almost every weekend night I usually hear them tearing up the Route 116 near where I live around 11:30pm. I typically never hear sirens or anything either, so I’m not sure about the legality of it all but it sure is annoying. Anybody having issues with them? Not necessarily just around Niigata but in other places?

Probably all of the people who live around you. Not to be rude, but what are you expecting to come out of this post? If there was something that could be done, your neighbors would probably have already done it.

  2. Not the same part of the country, but there’s one in my ward. They’re kinda annoying but it’s an otherwise super calm area so I don’t really care ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ They just ride around and make noise but don’t seem to do much else.

  3. They were around quite a few when I lived in Chiba prefecture.

Unfortubately, there does appear to be a correlation between home values and their presence.

  4. As some others are just giving cynical answers, yes this is a common problem in many parts of Japan. From speaking to police, there seems to generally be a view that these kids are just going through a rebellious stage, and rather than being future criminals in the making, they are deep down future salary men just blowing off steam before settling into society. With this context, police usually don’t seem to arrest them, so as to not ruin their future. But if things get out of hand, they absolutely do come down on them these days. So you might see police following them around making sure they don’t do anything too illegal. If it’s happening often, and no police presence, you might call the police and submit a complaint. They may already know, but it can’t hurt to try.
