“The END is Near.” {CS/IT degree for fail/success??}


Over the years the Standard Reply to the unwashed barbarian younglings is to get some sort of CS or IT bachelor’s degree and come to Japan with a [*’skosh*](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/skosh) of experience. Those days seem to be drawing to a close even though Japan often seems decade(s) behind the curve.

  1. I’d be a little hesitant to assume this is truly the end. Economics are very cyclical, although it’s certainly concerning in the short term. Plus, the job market with actual tech companies doesn’t always match what is going on with tech positions with companies in other industries (granted, there may be a flood of job seekers jumping on those opportunities though).

    That said, I’ll admit I’m trying to be optimistic for my own sake, as I was intending to start applying for jobs in Japan in the springtime (IT worker with a degree and over 10 years experience).

  2. The end is always near and a new beginning comes right after it. Keep learning/growing and you’ll always find a place that needs you.

  3. When all markets are shrinking the tech sector will shrink as well.

    All tech companies have a difficult time hiring talent, this is true now and was true before the pandemic. This will not make it much harder for us to find jobs.
