Certificate of Employment query

Hiya,

Returning to Japan and need to apply for a visa / etc. I need to submit a **Certificate of Employment** (date from and to worked) and a **Certificate of Retirement / Release** (end date) from a previous company and had a few questions that I haven’t managed to find the answer to yet. There’s also a lot of conflation online with the Certificate of Eligibility, confusing me a little. Thanks in advance for any help!

1. Do I need to get these documents from my most recent Japanese employer only? Or all my past Japanese employers?
2. I think I read somewhere that these documents have to be sent out to me from the employer within 3 days of the request – is that true? Or just a dream?

Thanks!

  1. I had to do something similar for PR.

1.) I had to get a taishyokusyoumeisyo (certificate of retirement) from all my previous employers. I called each HR up and asked them for it. If your previous company really hates you / went out of business, an alternative to proving you worked for them is the nenkin statement. That + an explanation letter may be a substitute for proof of work history.

2.) Yes, all documents have to be 3 months or newer, so time your document acquisition wisely.
