Furoshiki etiquette

Crazy American girl here. My husband got me some really cool furoshiki for our anniversary because he knows I love fabric. I understand that these are used as gift wrapping and can be reused for many things. Would it be inappropriate to make a quilt with them?

  1. I think it’s a bit like asking an English person if using a tea-towel to make a quilt is inappropriate. Sure, it’s not the norm … but do whatever you like? It’s just a piece of fabric, really.

  2. It wouldn’t be like using the memorial candles they sell at the grocery store on a birthday cake 😬 Should be fine- hope you share pictures of the quilt(s) when you’re done! Check out artist Adam Pogue, who uses traditional Korean quilting techniques for inspiration (lots of flat-felling going on).

  3. Do whatever you want with it. I mean as long as it’s OK with your husband who gave you the gift.
