A long time ago, in *1996*, a Japanese photographer from *The Asahi Shimbun* arrived to the cold Arctic lands of *Murmansk oblast, Russia.* At the time, my father was serving in the army, and was assigned to be the driver for this journalist. When given an opportunity, he tells the story of a Japanese journalist exploring the Russian North with much joy. Can you help me find his works, or even this particular article? Not much is known, but I know he visited *Kola Superdeep*, he’s certainly seen Aurora Borealis, and was called *Sakamoto*\-san by his translator, and every Russian around him.
It would be amazing to finally see the photos he took in 1996! I hope you could help me in my searches!

I’ll try to search the article but you can also contact the Asahi Shinbun in [English](https://www.asahi.com/ajw/help/privacy.html#Contact)
I’m probably way off, the name isn’t Sakamoto, but Michio Hoshino took some great pics in the Russian wilds. Might be worth a look for something in the same vein?
