Struggling to sort out middle of Japan trip…

A friend and myself are traveling to Japan for almost a month, and we have all of our trip planned out so far **except** the middle portion. The three days listed below is what we CURRENTLY are thinking of doing:

DAY 10: (Saturday, April 8th)

* TOKUSHIMA (Shikoku) 🔷
* Leave Kyoto / travel to Tokushima (3 hr train ride)

DAY 11: (Sunday, April 9th)

* IYA (Shikoku) 🔷
* Car Rental Tokushima station
* Iya (epic valley, old style Japan)
* Mount Tsurugi
* Nagoro scarecrow village
* Chiorii (old Japanese house)
* Staying in Iya Onsen

DAY 12: (Monday, April 10th)

* KOCHI (Shikoku) 🔷 Maybe Enoshima instead? (AKA Matsuyama area)

We would be coming from Kyoto on Friday, April 7th going into the Tokushima area listed above. After Monday, April 10th, we are traveling to Hiroshima for the next leg of our trip. The reason we have this “odd part” in the middle of our entire trip is because it revolves around the above Sunday, April 9th date, where we are traveling to Iya and staying at an onsen in the Iya Valley.

We are renting a car (likely from an airport) so the kicker is we need to pick up a car Sunday morning (from Tokushima station), and drop it off Monday morning/midday somewhere else.

We wanted some ideas on what to do in the Tokushima area, and also the Kochi (Shikokou or Enoshima/Matsuyama) area? Otherwise if anyone has any alternative ideas, that would be helpful.

The Sunday, April 9th day is pretty locked in for the Iya Onsen, but the day before and after is what I am looking for advice with. Thank you!

  1. Your day is way too full.
    The roads in that area are narrow, curvy and often one way and even if the distance isn’t far it’s gonna take you forever.
    Also tsurugi is a small “hike”. It will take you about an hour to get up, after taking the ropeway.
    Other than that lots of waterfalls and gorges in that area. Nikko deep or yasui valley for example.
