I am confused and couldn’t find an explanation for why the LDP and Komeito have been long-term coalition partners. Their platforms have some overlap but have enough disagreement to make them seem like non-obvious partners. I’ve missed some nuance and would appreciate an explanation for the origin of the LDP-Komeito coalition and how they’ve managed to stay allied for most of the 2000s. Sorry if this is the wrong subreddit, I have never posted here before.

Komeito gets their foot in the door of policy-making in exchange for not running candidates in races where they could potentially split the vote and give the win to the opposition.
