hello! i’ve had an extremely hard time with vocabulary, and i was wondering what are some good ways to go about it? i’ve tried things like anki decks, some apps, some videos on separate topics, vocab lists, but i’m really struggling to remember a lot of words. i’m actually having no problem with kanji and i’ve found it much easier to remember than words and grammar- probably because i am 100% a visual learner and kanji has more of a “visual” aspect. is there anything i can do to make vocabulary easier, or if not, just make it stick? thanks so much!!

I recommend writing and reading. Write about your day, about your interests, about whatever comes across your mind. I think it helps.
And try treading graded readers. There’s probably a post somewhere on this sub listing graded readers, many of which are completely free. There are also quite a few books of short stories in Japanese for language learners.
If you’re in the US, check out the app hoopla. If you have a library card, you can borrow eBooks for free, and they have some of those short stories for language learners books!
Good luck.

My favorite way to pile on vocab is:
1. Look on Netflix for a show i want to watch
2. Download the japanese subtitle file
3. Add it to JPDB as a new deck
4. Learn the vocab
5. Watch the show
This barely takes any time. And while watching, i have yomichan to help whenever i need it.
Seeing the words in context is extremely helpful.
