Update, and progress since my last post, and new, comfy way to read

# What was last post about

So, my last post was like, from 2 months ago. It was mostly, about reading text quite above my current level, and, the replies were.. mixed 😀

# The progress itself

So, now is the progress. I am very much happy by this part. Grammar wise, I don’t need to look up just as much now (And, it was the thing that took the longest to took up, so that part, is very much most important).
Vocabulary wise, it is getting better, but, I do have to look up that constantly nonetheless.

Still, for me, this progress is very satisfying, considering I am only doing, like, 10 minutes of anki and 20 minutes of reading every day

And the endurance itself, still, it got better as well >:3

# The more comfy way to read

So. This one is more about using ereader…
Either way, conventional screens, are not too pleasant to read on. So I thought: Read on e-ink.
Because oh boy, do I love e-ink, and how pleasant it is on the eyes when compared with conventional screen types like LCD or AMOLED

Obviously, what I needed, was not just any e-ink, but one, with decent refresh rate. So, I bought Onyx Tab Ultra.
Then I installed kiwi browser, set up yomichan, throw books into ッツ Ebook Reader, and here, the fun begins.

So, even on HD refresh mode, which is the slowest, yomichan word look ups take like, minimally less than 1 second? Which is hella amazing for me. And then, Balanced/Fast mode, the look up is pretty much instantaneous

And, to be honest, I found it help me to read for longer periods of time as well. So, mega happy.

And now, here, a photo of how it looks (Too bad, I can’t inline photos, so have to post on imgur)

# What next

I am just going to chill, and enjoy the ride, as the reading, despite having to look things up, very much.. pleasant experience, with hope that one day I will be able to read books without constantly looking things up, like it happened with English

  1. That’s great. In the end, it’s about what helps us keep going.

I’ve been thinking about getting an e-reader myself, but I’m not too sure since I already own an iPad. For me, I find physical books most comfortable at my stage even though the typical font sizes aren’t ideal for my eyesight. I need to look things up infrequently enough to just use my phone. The dictionary built into the OS is so slow and I have no idea if I can improve it.

  2. We can definitely see you’ve been doing lots of reading in Japanese everyday — you even write like them. No shade intended.

    Take this sentence for example:

    >I am just going to chill, and enjoy the ride, as the reading, despite having to look things up, very much

If I take a moment and highlight all the commas you have used in your English sentences, we can see that there are more commas than necessary. It’s a likely scenario that you were thinking in another language when you wrote this post.

    And here’s another example:

    >So, now is the progress. I am very much happy by this part.

The syntax of your sentences also sounded closer to something else than native English.

Again, I’m not trying to throw shades, just pointing out that it seems like your daily reading challenges worked and now you are able to think in another language.
