Help needed. From matsudo station to Takadanobaba St… which pass?

If I were to commute everyday from Matsudo station to Takadanobaba St (it took me a week to actually remember the spelling) which pass do I need??

Oh my, my school term soon starts but I don’t know how to commute without destroying my wallet.

Thank you so much in advance..

  1. You’ll get a pass between those 2 stations. Make sure to bring your student id there is a hefty student discount. I believe you need to go to the counter at least the first time to set it up with the discount.

  2. Go to the counter (or the ticket machines, and push the “call staff” button) at Matsudo station.

You should get a commuter pass with student discount if you’re in university or high school. To get the discount, you need your student card, so if you don’t have that yet, just charge a Pasmo or suica with cash and use the balance until you get it.

The commuter fare between your two stations is 7820 yen per month with the student discount (assuming you’re a university student).

~~If you’re a language school student, you probably have to pay regular fare, so then it’s 11850 yen per month, but not sure, ask the station people of you qualify for discount on that case.~~

  3. Matsudo Station and Takadanobaba Station use JR train lines so you’ll need to use a Suica card.

You’ll have the option to use an existing Suica card or make a new card for the train pass. If you don’t have a Suica card, making one costs ¥500. You can choose from a 1 month, 3 month, and 6 month train pass. You’ll save the most money with the 6 month train pass since it gives the most discounted train fare rate.

For example, a 1 month student train pass for Matsudo⇔Takadanobaba costs ¥7820. It costs ¥396 for a one-way standard fare (without a train pass). So if you commute more than 9 times a month (round trip), it’ll be cheaper to go with the train pass.

  4. get a student commuter pass and if you are looking for a part time job, get one around takadanobaba so that your work will cover for some portion of your commute fees.

  5. Matsudo->Nippori (Juban line, Rapid) transfer to Yamanote line (destination Ikebukuro) to Takadano station
