I have bought a reserved seat ticket but since there is going to be a snowstorm i’m going to go to the station early. What are my chances of being able to use the reserved seat Shinkansen ticket on an earlier train that same day (if I sit in an unreserved seat on the earlier train of course).
As far as I know with the cheaper unreserved seat tickets you can take any train the same day ? What about with the reserved seat tickets as long as you switch to an unreserved seat?
I’m going to ask the station staff just to make sure but thought i’d ask whether anyone here has done this before:)

Although you could change your reservatio

You can’t use your reserved ticket in a reserved seat of a different train, but you can go to ticket office and change your ticket to an early train, which will also change your seat reservation. You can also ride on an earlier or later train without changing your ticket, but you’ll have to look for a non-reserved seat then. This could not be a problem on a non-crowded day.
You can just march up to the ticket window and ask to change the reservation. This is ok up to the time the train leaves, and ok after the train leaves if you arrived late to the departure station due to a train delay.
