Rent Japanese Movies legally from the US? (Not necessary anime?)

Hi, so I just discovered today that Google Play Japan no longer accepts gift cards, my credit card, my paypal, or any other way to pay them.

What I’m looking for is a service that lets me watch newer releases, paying for it with my American money from the US. Is there a service with Japanese movies that is okay with the fact that I’m in the U.S. and actually lets me pay them?

I have a VPN, but I wish there was something like Google Play that didn’t make me pretend I was not in the US, but let me rent things in raw Japanese.

Examples:

I can get Ghost Book (Obake Zukan) from Google Play if they’d let me pay them.

I could get Kaitou Queen wa Circus ga Suki from Google Play if they’d let me pay them.

But these are both newer releases and streaming services, etc, don’t have these. I ended up really wanting them and paid CDJapan through the nose to buy the Blu-rays… But I could have paid Google Play 5 dollars.

Edit: It won’t let me edit the title, but I meant to write “Necessarily”

Edit edit: I tried Amazon prime and it won’t let me pay or download. I also tried Playstation but they don’t do video anymore.

Edit Edit Edit: I was able to make an amazon gift card work, but barely. Had to do something strange like mark my payment method as COD (I guess it means payment on delivery, but nothing is getting delivered, so it takes from the gift card)

I guess what I really want is for Japan to stop trying to keep me out of paying them my money to buy their media.

  1. You should be able to rent movies with a japanese PSN account, even on your phone, not sure about on your PC though. You will need the VPN to watch or download it, once downloaded the VPN does become unnecessary though
