Are there any anime that are good for beginners to learn Japanese?

I’m more of a visual learner, and I really don’t have the time to complete a course to learn the language. I would like to be able to speak some and understand Japanese with my girlfriend and her parents. What anime are the best to learn Japanese?

  1. It’s going to be very painful and draining for quite some time having to pause at every sentence to study the vocab and grammar. But nevertheless, watch something you enjoy.

For example, I’m going through a One Piece challenge and learning vocab as I go using JPDB. So far it’s around 500 new words per month.

  2. Just listening to anime won’t teach you the language (unless you’re one of those rare language learning prodigies) . You need to know some basic vocabulary and grammar.

Saying that, ‘slice of life’ genre is normally closest to everyday casual Japanese than other anime genres.

I’d strongly advise some formal learning beforehand – sounds like your girlfriend speaks Japanese? If so can you enlist her help in learning?

  3. I think it’s good to watch something you’ve already seen with subtitles so u know what’s going on and know you’re gonna like the show. Also there is jpdb.io that ranks shows by difficulty so that’s pretty useful. But it’s pretty painful when you start, having to pause all the time lol.

  4. Since no one is suggesting any anime, but have offered plenty of advise, I’ll give mine: Hinamatsuri.

This came out when I first started learning Japanese, and I found it to be relatively easy to listen to and follow along to. It’s a slice of life anime, which I normally wouldn’t watch, but for Japanese “studies” it was great. I really recommend watching it.

  5. Anime doesn’t really teach Japanese, Nothing really teaches Japanese without countless hours of pure hard work

But answering your question my first anime was K-on and I regretted not knowing about it
