励ます

Not a question I just thought it was cool that there is a plain form verb with a masu ending. Is this common?

  1. A Japanese friend who was prematurely balding liked to joke: 禿げ(はげ)ましたら励(はげ)ますよ. It was obviously a play on “hage” being the root of both of them. It’s obviously not polite, but he said it of himself (promise).
