Did you have to personally deal with the Japanese judiciary system in an awful way?

So as I am seeing all these scary stories pop up on japanlife recently and since I had nothing but courteous encounters with the cops here during the last 10 years, I would like to get a more objective sense of the threshold until you can get into serious trouble in this country. The story about the guy getting jailed just because he called some lady “fat” still gives me shivers tbh.

  1. Remember that most of the stories on here are exaggerated bullshit, it will help you understand.

  2. I’ve only had pleasant interactions with Japanese police. I’ve also never been in any trouble, so they may act differently if you’ve done something wrong or act belligerent.

  3. Frank, buddy, you need to dial it back to about a 6 or 7, you’re running at about 11 currently.

  4. But yesterday you were crying about how you miss good ol’ days when you had free reign to harass women and be a jerk in Japan.

  5. I’ve barely had any interactions with the police at all. A cop stopped me one time to see zairyu card but that’s all. Was pretty weird talking to somebody with a gun though.

  6. People exaggerate so much. I know people who have been detained for actual violent acts who walked away free with no repercussions the next day. Seen drunk guys yelling in cops faces and the cop just tries to de-escalate, no arrest. Sure there are bad examples too but most of the people bitching on the internet just have an ax to grind.

  7. No problems as a black man in Japan but I can believe the stories I’ve read here. Mostly unlucky mfs.

The people I personally know that have had entanglements with the law were completely in the wrong and would likely receive similar punishments (if not worse) in their home countries.

The thing that surprises me the most however is there’s a number of people who get up to all sorts of fuckery in Japan but seem to evade the law. Knew of one prick years back who was based in Sagami-Ono that was doing the most heinous things. Knew him for about 2 years and he’s been rampaging there for like the past 20 years. Some muthafuckas got Trump level gold star invincibility when evading the law. On the other hand, the ones I know who got clapped by the law were one and done dudes.
