In a very simplified and generalized explanation, Hiragana and Katakana were designed from elements of Kanji. Also that fins kanji seem to just be the hiragana “ha”.
That’s not the kanji for fin, it’s a radical that they’ve chosen the nmemonic of ‘fin’ for.
