Possible to work a salary position vs hourly while on student visa?

Hi all,

I’m looking into keeping my current job while on a student visa. Does anyone know if its possible to hold a salary position at a job as apposed to an hourly one? I guess I’m not sure if they only care about the hours worked. If nothing else, I’d imagine it would require some kind of explanation to immigration because of the income amount.

  1. Your employment contract with whatever company will have to be part time for at most the maximum of allowed hours (28h/week I believe), as a bonus you will also not be allowed to do overtime on that. If you salary is high they might come knocking on your door or your companies door to check if you are not going over your work hours. Better keep proof you are not doing anything shady and only working the amount of hours allowed.

Also just in case since some people get confused by this. Having a direct employment contract is only possible for companies with a presence in Japan since they must adhere to Japanese labor laws. So if said salaried position is in your home country (and they don’t have a legal entity here, etc.) you can only go through a global employment agency or work as a contractor for them.
