I’m in my mid-30s and I’ve been interested in the country for the last 18 years but never got the chance to visit for different reasons. I was ready to do so during the last Olympics but you guess what happened. I will finally be able to go April 25, 2023.
I want to maximize these 20 days so I have a list of things I want to do but with no decision yet on how long to stay in the different cities. FYI I hate moving around too much so I prefer to have a base and visit a specific area even if it means settling for a 1h30 journey to a day trip.
So, what I have in mind for now:
**TOKYO:**
· Disneyland/DisneySea
· Asakusa-jinja, Senso-ji, Nakamise Shopping Street, Ueno Park & Zoo & Tokyo National Museum
· Odaiba (Palette Town, Venus Fort, teamLab Borderless, TeamLab Planets, Marine Park, etc.)
· Ikebukuro: Pokemon Center, Sunshine City (shopping mall, Sunshine Aquarium)
· Shinjuku: Shinjuku Gyoen Park, Koenji (shopping)
· Akihabara
· Inokashira Park/Ghibli Museum/Kichijoji Sun Road Shopping
· Tokyo Dome City (Koishikawa Kōrakuen, LaQua, Attractions)
· Shibuya: Harajuku
· Okutama
· Kasai Rinkai Park / Tokyo Sealife Aquarium

**Day trips (potential) from Tokyo**: Nikkō, Mont Fuji (Hakone), Kamakura, Enoshima, Hitachi Seaside Park, Chichibu (Hitsujiyama Park)

**KYOTO**
Arashiyama (bamboo grove), Monkey Park, Nijō-jō, Kinkaku-ji, Fushimi Inari-taisha (après 16h car trop de touristes), Gion, Ryoan-ji, Tenryū-ji, Kyoto Imperial Palace, Château d’Hikone, Aquarium, Promenade du philosophe, Kiyomizu-dera

**OSAKA**
Dotonbori, Mont Koya, Osaka aquarium, Universal Studios Japan, Osaka Castle, Tennōji Park
I’ll choose either Kyoto or Osaka for a Kansai base and also think about day trips to Hikone and Kobe.

**How many days in each base ? Other cities or activities to include ? Opinions on the activities I’ve listed ? Hotels suggestions welcome too**
No matter the price I want to get the best of my time in Japan so the fear of missing out on great things is there.
Thanks in advance for your insights !

Are you a die hard disney fan? If not, skip disney world and have a day to get loet in old town Tokyo.
Take into account jetlag time. Don’t do/see too much, you will get overwhelmed.
I recommend Nara as a base or otherwise shin-Osaka area. Do you love nature? Visit some like mt Takao if you can.
