Itinerary Check – 5 days in Tokyo

Not usually one to plan super-strict itineraries, but since its such a rare, first-time trip just want to make sure we make our rounds and can see some basics.

If there are any glaring things that seem missing / or not recommended to fit into one day

any help or ideas are appreciated!

Thanks!!

  1. if your coming from the US, you probably won’t have much jetlag at all, flying west isn’t nearly as bad as when you’ll fly back home so no need to plan to rest the first day unless you don’t sleep on your flight(i always do)

is 5 days your entire trip?

why are you walking everywhere? take the yamanote or other local train or subway, it’s super cheap and ridiculously efficient

also sleep in, nothing opens in japan till like 10-11am.

I think your trip could be better structured to see more things.

friday -Shibuya is not going to take a whole day and isn’t worth spending a whole day on. you could see yoyogi, harajuku and shibuya together in just a couple hours.

saturday- why shopping at tokyo station? why tokyo tower? why not skytree? hamarikyu gardens isn’t going to be great in february, mostly brown grass and trees that won’t bud for another month. only good thing there is water taxi up to asakusa. you coulud combine this day with sensoji and askusa and nakamise if thats what you want to do. walk to akasaka? that seems like a waste of time and energy

sunday- akihabara definitely deserves a full day to explore all the shops. i’ve spent days there.

I would look at some of the amazing museums Tokyo has to offer, Edo is closed but the natural history museum is mindblowing, the national gallery is amazing.
