Mt Fuji and 3-week trip in early September or October?

Hi, we would like to include Mt Fuji in our 3-week trip in autumn 2024 (Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka).

Due to the autumn leaf season, we had planned to travel in October to November. However, the official hiking season for Mt Fuji ends on 10 September.

We thought that we might bring the trip forward to early September and climb Mt Fuji right at the beginning of the trip in the last days of the hiking season.

Does that make sense in terms of the weather and if we want to see the great autumn colours? We have read that it is still humid and warm in September and that the leaves in Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka usually turn much later, from around the end of October.

If there are no autumn colours in September or the weather is much worse for a longer trip than in October, we would prefer October and visit Mt Fuji from a distance, e.g. from Lake Kawaguchi.

  2. September can still be hot and humid but not as bad as August. September is still in the typhoon season. Also easily one and a half to two months too early for autumn color.

So yeah, choose Fuji or color.
