Itinerary check. Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto, Osaka,

So I will be travelling to Japan from the 7th of February to the 15th. My itinerary is as follows.

Tuesday 7th: arrive in Haneda airport at 1:45pm. Collect JR pass. Take the subway to my hotel in Shibuya. Depending on how long it takes to get to my hotel and how I feel I may decide to do some exploring but I have nothing planned for this day.

Wednesday 8th: Team Borderless Labs and Odaiba in the morning. Imperial Gardens in the afternoon and then dinner and drinks in Roppongi. Is it worth doing Toyuso/tsukiji fish market early in the morning. I’m not really keen on them but if it’s a must do then I can check one of them out. Which one is the better one? Also depending on how much time I spend in odaiba i may decide to skip the gardens.

Thursday 9th: get up early go to Meiji shrine/yoyogi Park. Harajuku in the morning. Have lunch in shibuya and explore a little bit. Shinjuku in the evening, see the Godzilla head, metro building view, dinner in memory lane.

Friday 10th: Asakusa, ameyoko for lunch. Ueno Park in the afternoon. Akihabara in the evening. Dinner in Akihabara.

Saturday 11th: get up early. Activate JR pass and take train to Hakone. Have luggage delivered to hotel. Do the Hakone loop. Evening relaxing in hotel onsen.

Sunday 12th: wake up early take the train to Kyoto. Arrive in Kyoto around lunch time. Drop my bags of at my accommodation and have lunch in Nishiki market. In the afternoon walk around Gion and see the kiyomizu and Nanzenji shrines. Not sure if I will have enough time to see both? Dinner in pontocho alley.

Monday 13th: wake up early checkout of accommodation but leave bags there. Go to either Arashiyama or Fushimi inari. Which one would be best to see early before they get crowded? I would also like to see kinkaku-ji too. So maybe I could do that with arashiyama in the morning and leave Fushimi inari until the late afternoon. Need some more suggestions/recommendations for more temples/shrines to see. In the evening collect bags from hotel and take train to osaka. How late can I leave this? Arrive in osaka and check in to hotel.

Tuesday 14th: Umeda sky, osaka castle, shinsekai, dotonbori.

Wednesday 15th: go to osaka airport early in morning and fly to next destination.

Any recommendations of good places to eat? I like all kinds of food.

Do I need a sim card when in Japan? Is WiFi a necessity?

Any other thoughts and recommendations are greatly appreciated 🙂

  1. This is probably not what you want to hear, but I think traveling that much on a 7 day trip is major overkill. 3.5 days in Tokyo with one of those days probably jetlagged, less than a day in Hakone, less than 2 days in Kyoto with one of those being a day trip, and then just 1 day in Osaka. If you HAVE to fly out of Osaka, I’d recommend doing 4 days in Tokyo and 3 days in Osaka and taking a day trip or two to Kyoto.

The way you have it seems like crossing off a list without being able to relax and fully enjoy what’s going on around you.

Also, if you haven’t, I would use the JR Pass calculator to see if it makes sense for you to get one – from your itinerary, I’m not sure it is.

    And teamLab Borderless is closed.
