Bought these a while back now, a very convenient and easy way to lock in new vocab. There are 300 of them…my place is covered. :-P.

  1. Ha, I’ve got these too. You’ve been a little more creative with where you put them though.

  2. That’s really good idea, however speaking as someone who has been learning Japanese for almost 6 years now I think you should cut off the romaji part. Just learn how to read the kana, most people can learn to read hiragana in a few days to a week. The reason why is because while romaji is helpful at the beginning, it just slows down your progress in the future. For example the sounds of Japanese doesn’t fit 100% into romaji so even if you read the romaji it’s still slightly off and on top of that it just gets away more confusing to read romaji the further you get. I highly suggest just biting the bullet and cutting off the romaji part, then as you learn hiragana you’ll slowly get better and better at reading them. Especially if you keep these guys up with only romaji and kanji showing you’ll be able to read hiragana in no time.

  3. As a Japanese teacher, there are two points about these that concern me:

① the romaji. But enough people here have already explained why this is a concern.

② the fact that na-adjectives have a な included. I prefer them without a な when in isolation like on these stickers (or at least in parentheses). It seems strange to see them in that form without a noun or noun phrase afterward.

  4. email is normally just メール, just be careful you’re not accidentally locking in unnatural vocab
