Any way to get a new sim card online?

Hey everyone,Last time I got my sim card it was nothing short of a tragedy, since I had to go to the shop (Yamada Denki) with my wife, due to my lack of kanji knowledge, and it still took 2 hours of paperwork and the employee sweating profusely as I was a foreigner and I kept asking questions.

Now I am wondering if 5 years later it’s finally possible to do it online? I didn’t find anything by searching so maybe anyone knowledgeable can fill me in.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: I need a few gb per month and optionally phone calls (I can pay for them, no deal if not included in the plan, but I need the card to be able to make and receive calls, mostly for the kids’ kintergarten)

  1. Yes you can apply online for a sim card these days, including submission of all the identity documentation etc. If it’s a eSim, you can even get it issued within a few hours/minutes directly to your phone.

There are so many providers, since you didn’t specify what you’re looking for/requirements, i don’t have any specific recommendation.

  2. IIJ. All online – no shops, overseas credit card ok. Nuro – all online, no shops, no foreign credit cards.

  3. Rakuten mobile has esim and a physical sim delivery online.
All the application and verification can be done online.
