Need help with personal in-person interpreting service

I need interpreting services for jp to eng and vice versa for an appointment in Oita, all of the websites I visited only offered professional services for businesses and such while I only need them for casual purposes and not even for an hour probably. Any suggestions?

  1. You can book a professional interpreter. I’m guessing they label themselves that rather than amateur for marketing purposes. I don’t think they will refuse your money even if you just want to have a quick chat with a rando in Oita. It’s just going to cost money so have an axe handy so you can chop off a few of your own limbs.

Do this if nobody pipes up here offering their services. A search on Japan groups on Facebook might also help you find somebody. Just keep in mind that two gaijin rocking up to a Japanese person in the countryside may not make them very talkative. You know the situation better than me so keep that in the back of your head. A Japanese person dressed in their finest suit from Aoki bowing in all the right moments etc. may be more suited.

  2. You could contact the international association for Oita prefecture or even for the city you’ll be in if they have one, and see if they can help.
