weird place between wanting to pursue JET and attempting to get back into the Navy

I apologize if this isn’t the best place to ask, but I kind of need input.
I am interested in pursuing JET, to recalibrate where I am going in life.
But I also want to fight my reenlistment code and get back into the military (before any one asks, no its not a dishonorable discharge.)
Guess I am asking if anyone here has had to face a similar situation?

  1. Not a similar situation but what do you want your long term career to be?

  2. Unless you want a career in Japan, or want to become a teacher I’m not so sure if JET is the best thing to “recalibrate” your life.

Also, why do you want to do JET besides that? The bulk of your application and interview will be about the why, and you need to convince others of your reasons, so if it is “just because” you have nothing else going on so “why not”, it’s gonna be hard to lie for the 9 months or so it takes to apply. Think more about that.

    Hope you figure things out!

  3. If you’ve got a DD214 then pursue JET, the Navy will take you back kind of whenever unless there’s something weird going on. Your mileage may vary.

  4. I feel like JET for many does the opposite of “recalibrating” anything career wise unless you want to train up to become an English teacher. For the experience of living in Japan it does that but career wise the military is a better bet if you do desire that and it sounds like you do. If your request is denied JET is not going anywhere.
