I’m currently stationed in Okinawa and I’m married to a Japanese citizen and we’re trying to move to mainland on my EAS. I speak basically no Japanese and we’re trying not to live on 1 salary – does anyone know how I can work in Japan?
I’ve looked into teaching English locally in Japan which is an option but I’d prefer to try and work for an American company remotely in Japan or as a contractor or something. I don’t have a lot of knowledge in this and I was hoping someone with more experience can help guide me in the right direction

Maybe you can work as a freelancer in [https://www.upwork.com/](https://www.upwork.com/). That could work offline.
I’ve been trying to get a remote us job for the past year and haven’t had any luck and I have IT experience. The only person i know that works remote got his job while in the states then moved here.

Working doing WHAT?
That is…
1. What skill(s) are you planning to offer as a remote worker? Qualifications? Experience? Why would a company want to go though the pain of hiring an ALIEN remote worker?
2. If you want to work in Japan as freelance or subcontractor to an American or foreign company outside Japan, the non-Japanese company will have complex income tax issues requiring hiring a [GEO service](https://www.reddit.com/r/movingtojapan/search?q=GEO&restrict_sr=on&include_over_18=on).
I have been in Okinawa for just under a month know. Started a job as an implementation specialist with an IT company state side back in May and still learning the role, but my spouse got an amazing work opportunity that would bring us over with SOFA status.
This was the main catalyst for my company approving my move along with the desire to try and have a team member in this region to further help grow our foot print. Not sure if I could have gotten the job with the smaller company while over here, but the SOFA status removed a lot of the legal and financial hurdles. Also work for a company who truly values their employees and starts at yes when approached by employees with questions/ideas.
