for genki specifically there is an online workbook

I think a lot of people also use anki with genki to help with the vocab.
Start with the anki manual if anything.
Literally only use the book as a grammar reference guide. However I still do the readings and listening in the books as free immersion. I skip all the exercises. I finished each genki chapter in a few days at most. Then just do your normal immersion (reading and listening), with your book nearby in case you run into a grammar point. This repeated exposure will gradually allow your brain to absorb the grammar points.
With genki specifically I have found tokiniandy youtube to be really helpful.
