Landed at Narita and met my family after a year away.
Japanese fans of my favourite idol group gifting me merchandise just because they are happy that the group is liked abroad, too.
Went off-road with my rental car in snowy Hokkaido and an older gentlemen stopped and helped me get the car back on the road. I tried really hard give him some thank you money but wouldn’t take it.
I live in very rural Japan and an older guy (in his 70’s I think) has been slowly learning english unbeknownst to me. I see him every so often at our Lawson, and he waves at me, I wave back, and say ohaiyou or konbanwa. A couple weeks ago, he said “Hello. It is good weather today.” even though it was pissing rain. He looked so pleased with himself, I couldnt help but not and say “very good weather!”
After going through German immigration and customs, coming back to Japan where the immigration and customs people are impeccably polite. Even when they search your bag….
A station attendant chased me across the station and down a flight of stairs in order to give me a 1-yen coin I had dropped.
1. Was jogging in the middle of a rice field one day and then an old man cheered me up, saying “Ganbare!”
2. One day while I was staring at a Sakura Tree, an old woman who was passing by told me that there are more Sakura Trees at a nearby shrine. Afterwards, she said “may you have a great stay in Japan” (in Japanese).
We were at the park with my friends during springtime. It was about a week that we just arrived in Japan and there this kid who ran towards us, looks at each of us in the face realizing were gaijins, says “Konnichiwa” and then runs back to his parents.
