Will I be understood without conjugating verbs?

I’m going to Japan in a week and I’m trying to learn the basics of the language. I feel like learning conjugation wouldn’t be a good use of my time considering how much else I need to learn. So if I just use the dictionary version and maybe the past tense version when talking, will people understand me? Thankyou

  1. Generally yes. Similar to English if you said, ‘Ramen want’. It’s not correct English but understandable.

  2. If you use the dictionary version you will come off as rude – dictionary form is used for casual language

A week is no time at all, your best bet is to memorize stock phrases from a travelers dictionary
