I’ve heard good news of using Monolingual (J-J) dictionaries, but what about Monolingual (J-J) Anki Flashcards? Hence a Japanese word on the front, and the word explained in Japanese on the back.
I haven’t seen many thoughts/evidence on whether this is a good idea or not.

Making monolingual anki cards is just as beneficial as using a monolingual dictionary in general, i.e. you should absolutely do it and if you stick to translations for too long you are just shooting yourself in the foot. Obviously you won’t be able to go monolingual right away but I recommend trying to get used to J-J dictionaries as soon as possible and using japanese definitions on your cards.
It’s very beneficial and if you can read monolingual definitions I think that you are hindering yourself by not having monolingual anki cards. There is some stuff where it’s better to use bilingual definitions like animals since those monolingual definitions tend to be pretty dense and scientific while the bilingual definition is just the name of the animal but in english. But for me minus exceptions like that 99% of my anki cards are monolingual and if you can read monolingual definitions or are starting to read monolingual definitions I’d recommend you do the same.
