Leaving in 7 days and looking for recommendations for itinerary.

Hey all, I am leaving for Japan in 7 days and I don’t have any idea on where to go and what to see for the best experience.

My trip will be 53 days long, and I will mostly be staying with my cousin who lives in Misawa. I have a roughly 2-3k budget (not counting plane ticket and travel insurance), and would like to live cheaply for the most part.

I will be landing in Narita International airport (coming from Portland), and will probably stay in Tokyo for a week before heading north. My cousin is fluent in Japanese after living in Japan for the last half-decade, but I only have about a college semester worth of practice and some Duolingo.

I don’t need a full itinerary planned to be happy, just some general recommendations on places to see or things to do that you’d recommend. I like nature, old architecture, hiking, trying new foods, museums, libraries, and so on. I don’t really care for shopping centers, souvenir shopping, bars, etc.

The only specific thing I have planned is a ski trip at a resort in western Aomori on Jan 28th.
