Immersing through reading/listening to Japanese subs?

For anime I have access to both their audio files and subtitle files.

Would it be a good idea for immersion that I listen to the audio of the anime for audio immersion, and read the subtitle files (which are in Japanese) for reading immersion?

  1. Anime is not the best source, as it often uses, to put it someway, “overdramatic and unnatural japanese” for a number of reasons. There are some exceptions but they are rather far in between. There are better resources, but I understand the benefits of having a written transcription. I’d only suggest your approach if you still feel “alien” when listening to the language.
For reading, I think it’s ok to get more practice. Just make sure to stick to you formal grammar study rather than patterns in anime/manga.
