Hello, I am planning a trip between December 24th 2021 and January 16th 2022(fingers crossed). I really want to hike Mt. Kumotori and camp along the trail for a couple of days. I would like to know what the weather is like during this timeframe to gauge if this hike is possible. I would also like to know if Mt. Kumotori has rentable camping equipment, a tent and winter spec sleeping pads at least. Finally, I wanted any recommendations for camping/hiking retailers in Tokyo to avoid extra plane luggage. Thanks.

Out of curiosity, do you plan to buy all the required gear and leave it in Japan before you go back home ?
As most North American airline would include 2x 23kg checked luggage, I would just consider bringing the gear I currently own as I cannot imagine it would exactly be cheap to buy everything.
Are you an experienced camper? I can’t imagine trying to winter camp with rented gear and if you have your own gear then I can’t imagine just not bringing it.
Winter is not the time to start going camping.
