I’ve been trying to immerse myself more in Japanese through watching movies and tv shows in Japanese rather than English. I’m still new to the language though and a lot of the time I can’t even distinguish the words they’re saying. Does anybody have recommendations for movies or TV shows that use vocabulary that would be easier for a beginner to pick up? I know that watching kids shows is a good way to do this, so I’m open to those suggestions too!

Super Sentai and Kamen Rider. Not joking. Teaches you tonnes of elementary words and phrases. Theres plenty of puns in character names, abilities and more where you’ll learn new words just from appreciating them.
The repetition in dialogue for abilities, forms and more also works as reinforcement.
Case in point is Kamen Rider Build. A lot of the forms are one half inanimate object and one half animate object. This means a lot of everyday items like vacuum cleaner and regular animals showing up. You’ll soak up a surprising amount of stuff, and the shows are very enjoyable too.
There’s plenty of subs available online for the shows, and some even have official English releases.
