Which can be used in casual messaging?

Hi, I’d like to know which options are valid for when I want to say “Wow!” Besides adding an exclamation mark to the end of these, would すげー, すげえええ, and すげぇ by themselves work?

Also, I read that a small tsu at the end can signify an exclamation as well, so could I use something like すげえええええっ or すげっ?

  1. I would say any of those would work. Personally, I think too many え can be a little obnoxious. I’ve also seen katakana used for emphasis on occasion:『スゲッ！』However this feels pretty ヤンキー to me.

  3. You’ll have to find your own style. Are you an 俺 type, a 僕 type, or 私 type, depending on the image you want you will choose the appropriate style but of course some Japanese will respond accordingly as some may not like the 俺 type etc.

  4. I think it’s one of those “if you have to ask you should just stick to the most basic version” sorts of things. All of those are valid, sure – but how you’re perceived in some given context using them/other casual and slangy language is probably hard for you to predict.
