Japan Itinerary Draft (8 days)

Hello, first time visiting Japan and first time international travel for both me and my bf. This trip is a bit shorter than I would’ve liked but this is what I can get around my work schedule. Since it is our first time, I did want to see a little bit of everything which is why I am trying to see Tokyo, Kyoto and maybe Osaka.

We will be departing the US in Feb and our days can be flexible, but I’d like to keep all the activities together.

**Feb 8th** \- Flight departure from LAX

**Feb 9th** \- Arrive to HND at 5pm. Expecting long wait times so we will head to our hotel (Keisei Richmond in Koto City) and eat some food from 7/11 or Lawson.

**Feb 10 -**

Shibuya

* Meji
* Yoyogi Park
* Shibuya Scramble

Harajuku

* Takeshita St

Shinjuku

* Would like some suggestions.

**Feb 11 -**

* Senso-ji
* Skytree? (Day or night)
* Ueno Park

Akihabara

* Just walk around

**Feb 12** \-

* Imperial Palace
* Walk Ginza
* Tsukiji Market

**Feb 13 -**

Travel to Kyoto

We will be Northern Kyoto and plan to visit the shrines nearby like Yasaka and Kyoto Imperial Palace

**Feb 14 -**

* Fushimi Inari
* Higashiyama District
* Suggestions?

**Feb 15 -**

* Possible trip to Osaka? Maybe just to visit Dotonbori.
* Travel to Kawaguchiko for Onsen

**Feb 16 -**

* Mt Fuji panoramic ropeway
* Head back to Tokyo for last night

**Feb 17 -**

* Leave Tokyo at 4pm

Not sure if I am underplanning the trip, but I would appreciate some suggestions since this is our first trip. I am seeing most of the touristy spots but would appreciate other places to visit as well! I also assume we will not be needing a JR Pass based on this itinerary?

  1. Just finished up a 9 day firsttime trip to these cities with an evening side trip to Dotonbori from Kyoto. Bought the 7 day JR pass for the shinkansen between these cities as well as the local JR trains. I thought the pass was worth it for our case.

  2. 11th hit some of the museuems in Ueno park.

    the 12th seems kinda wasted IMO, there’s not much to see in ginza or tsukiji worth a whole day. you could go from there to sensoji via the water taxi which is a really nice ride.

    I would pick kyoto or Osaka not both on such a short trip

    going all the way to kawaguchiko for the ropeway seems wasteful as there is it could be a cloudy day and you won’t see fuji.

  3. Are you able to fly into Tokyo and out of Osaka KIX? For a short trip, it’ll give you a half day more sightseeing and you’ll save on Shinkansen tickets (no need JR pass for a one way trip).
