Coming from Haneda to Tokyo 終電後

I just realized my plane will land around 22:30 at Haneda. A couple of months ago, when I landed at Narita, it took me two hours to leave the airport due to the all the COVID checking etc. Probably the same thing is going to happen in Haneda.

Besides getting a taxi, which is super expensive, does anyone know if there’s something else I can do?

Thank you!

  1. It doesn’t take that long anymore.

Edit: unless you’re coming from China maybe.

  2. It’s super fast if you don’t have carry on luggage. Last time from haneda it took me roughly 10min from the plane opening doors to getting out of the airport door.

Make sure you have your vaccination QR code ready before stepping out.

  3. I’d check the bus timetables as well. If they’re also finished for the day, I’d grab a hotel (I think there are capsule ones) until the next day.

  4. I landed in Haneda in November on a flight which was delayed from a 17:00 arrival to 22:30. The airline staff made a point of ensuring everyone could make their last train, and after 22:30 there wasn’t much activity in the airport anyway.

In my case, I lived away from central Tokyo and factoring in transfers, my last train was 23:05 (or so) and tho I had to hustle out of the airport, I was able to make it with their assistance — even with a checked bag. If you live close to central Tokyo, you’ll probably be fine since last train is going to be later.

  5. It’s no longer like that. I landed in Haneda last Thursday. You just need to register via “visit japan web”. Covid check, immigration check and customs took no more than 10min. I waited 55min for my luggage tho.

  6. I would stay at a capsule hotel like another poster mentioned. Might cost you 5-7,000 yen, but just a lot easier overall.

  7. If you have a hotel reserved already, ask if they have a late shuttle bus. Several of the big ones do.

  8. My parents visited me last thursday and it took them 2 hrs from landing to exiting the customs. They are able to leave much earlier because people let them go first as they are too old to be waiting for the long line.

This is in Narita though, I don’t know if it will be the same in Haneda for arriving residents on non-peak season.
